What is Hygge?

Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. As a cultural category with its sets of associated practices, hygge has more or less the same meanings in Danish and Norwegian, but the notion is more central in Denmark than in Norway.

How do I practice Hygge at home?

Practicing Hygge is not just Décor in your home but also following the lifestyle. It’s about connecting with those around you and taking time to enjoy smaller things in life. It’s about cuddling in bed with your loved one, or playing games under a blanket with friends and family. Practicing Hygge is part of connecting, it is part of fulfilling relationships.

How can I start my Hygge journey?

Start by looking at the items in your home that bring you comfort, that bring you happiness. It is items that bring you joy that will give you the sense of Hygge and wanting to start the journey. Look at the rooms you spend most of your time in, and ask yourself the following:

  1. Does this room make me feel comfortable?
  2. Does the Dècor bring me joy?
  3. Do I want to share this space with others?

You will become more self-aware about who you are as a person. You will be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses better. Your self-awareness will improve as you practice Hygge because it's all about connecting with yourself, your friends and family and your surroundings.
